Primo Contavalli

Primo Contavalli was the son, apprentice and assistant of the luthier Luigi Contavalli. He became well-known at a young age as a result of the care he put into his work, which unfortunately deteriorated somewhat in his later years. He received several awards, including the silver medal at the Santa Cecilia competition in Rome in 1920.
He based most of his instruments on the models of Stradivari and Guarneri, using wood of an extremely high quality. Contavalli's instruments have a very sonorous sound quality and are painted with quite a light, sometimes golden-yellow, varnish.
